Raissa Miller, PhD, LPC

Background

My journey into the counseling field began in 2003 when I took an elective counseling course at the University of North Texas and began substituting at a local school district. I became very interested in hearing individuals' stories, both their challenges and their striving to grow. I loved learning more about myself and how my experiences influenced the way I viewed myself, others, and the world. After graduation, I decided to pursue a Master's in Counseling and through the program I spent 1 1/2 years working at the Denton County Children's Advocacy Center counseling children, adolescents, and families who were survivors of sexual assault. In 2010 I started the doctoral program at North Texas and was introduced to interpersonal neurobiology. I began integrating neuroscience-informed concepts and interventions into my work with individuals and couples in community counseling centers and eventually, in private practice. I developed specialties in work with addiction and relapse prevention, trauma, and anxiety. I accepted a faculty position at Boise State in 2014 and have continued part-time clinical practice in the training clinic while shifting my primary attention to furthering the scholarship around neuroscience-informed practices in counseling.
